SONGWRITING & CreativE workshops

Hey y'all! Hannah here. I want to share a little about the songwriting and other creativity workshops I am hosting. I say ‘hosting’ rather than teaching, because a facilitator's role is to invite each learner to listen to their own voice, connecting with their own wisdom.

Current Offerings:

  • Song Babies: Write Your First Song in a Nurturing Environment. Songs are like baby plant seedlings – they need certain things to grow. This workshop focuses on developing your first lyric and melody ideas, and gaining tools to deal with the inner critic. Available as weekend retreat or multi-week workshop.
  • Songwriting through the Senses (A workshop focused on memory, emotions, and concrete details, adapted from an exercise created by Pat Pattison. Due to the immense power of memory, this one goes into the most emotional depth, and will include firm safety parameters for participants.) Available as weekend retreat or multi-week workshop.
  • Write Your Dog's New Favorite Song (An abbreviated workshop exploring songwriting skills in a low-stakes way – a song for your dog, cat, fish, snake, parrot, etc.! It could be an ode to a beloved pet, a theme song for zoomies, or simply a love song.) Available as 2-hr or half-day workshop.
  • Write Your Theme Song / Fight Song (An abbreviated workshop focused on group songwriting to unearth and celebrate shared values. Ideal for when participants are open to creative expression and centering what they already hold in common with each other.) Available as 2-hr or half-day workshop.

These offerings are designed to be adapted for multiple settings: art and music festivals; breweries, bookstores, and art councils; elementary and middle school classrooms and after school programs; and continuing education for creative professionals as well as professionals who want to explore creativity.

About Creative Facilitation: The Inward & Artward Model

I am certified as a creative facilitator through the Inward & Artward School of Creativity. This 18-week course is taught by Inward & Artward founder Erin Hallagan Clare (also the founder of Asheville's beloved Story Parlor), and is rooted in the intersection of the creative process, personal stories, and the human condition. The Inward & Artward model centers the agency and momentum of the learner, rather than centering the expertise of the facilitator. The I&A school also carefully delineates creative facilitation from therapy (we are not therapists and must stay within our scope as creative facilitators). Learn more: Inward & Artward Model
